‘Call Of Duty’ Director Puts His Sights On Tom Hardy & Chris Pine

For years, “Call of Duty” has been one of the most successful video game franchises in the world. Taking place in a variety of time periods, “Call of Duty” is war game that puts the players in the middle of large battles, killing dozens of bad guys, including Nazis, terrorists, and even the occasional zombie. It was only a matter of time before Hollywood decided to take a stab at the game for a potential movie franchise.

According to recent reports, it looks like the “Call of Duty” film is moving forward with upcoming “Sicario 2: Soldado” director Stefano Sollima at the helm. But that’s not all. UK’s Metro believes they have figured out who might star in the proposed film.

Speaking to Metro at the release of his short film for Campari, “The Legend of the Red Hand,” Sollima went out of his way to commend the work of two of Hollywood leading men, Tom Hardy and Chris Pine.

The lovefest began with Sollima talking about Hardy. “I mean, I like almost everything [Hardy’s been in]. I’m waiting for his ‘Venom.’ Even in ‘Mad Max,’ he was great,” said the director.

However, it wasn’t all Hardy-love. No, Sollima was even more reverential in regards to Pine. “He’s tough, but he’s smart and he can have a sense of humor but he can [also] be in such a dramatic role,” the director explained.

(No word yet if Sollima has actually seen “This Means War.”)

The report doesn’t definitively say that Hardy and Pine are the director’s first choices, probably because he hasn’t officially taken the job as director yet. However, as Metro points out, Hardy and Pine would be two great, if somewhat obvious, choices for a “Call of Duty” film.

Both Pine and Hardy are no strangers to action films, let alone large franchises. It would stand to reason that if “Call of Duty” moves forward and begins casting, it would be a huge opportunity for any actor, and Sollima would have his choice of big names.

The real question is if “Call of Duty” has the potential to be any good, since video games have a horrible track record on the big screen. Let’s be honest, “Call of Duty” games have never been known for their strong storylines.
