Joy Villa Makes Anti-Abortion Statement With Her Dress at the Grammys (Photo)

Joy Villa again used the Grammys to make a conservative political statement with her outfit, this year espousing an anti-abortion message with her white dress and handbag.

The 26-year-old singer appeared at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards in New York wearing a white Pronovias dress with a circular, rainbow-colored shape on it that represented a fetus in the womb. On her handbag was painted the message “Choose Life.” The outfit was topped off with a tiara.

Villa told Fox News she hand-painted the dress herself, saying she made the statement because she supports adoption over abortion. She said she was inspired because she gave up a baby for adoption when she was 21.

An outspoken conservative and fan of President Donald Trump, Villa has used her fashion to make a political statement before. At last year’s Grammys, she wore a form-fitting blue dress with Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again,” inscribed down the front. Along the bottom back it said “Trump” in sparkling letters.

Villa isn’t the only person making a political statement with what she’s wearing at the Grammys. Many artists and celebrities are wearing white roses in support of women coming forward to report sexual assault and misconduct against powerful men in Hollywood and beyond.

Movements supporting women speaking out against sexual misconduct have been a big part of award shows this month. The Golden Globes saw celebrities dressing in all black in solidarity with women, specifically in support of #TIMESUP, a movement that has created a legal defense fund to support women fighting sexual harassment in the workplace. At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, celebrities wore #TIMESUP pins to support the movement as well.
