The sale of the Weinstein Company was thrown into turmoil on Sunday, as the outgoing board of directors rejected a settlement offer by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman over civil rights violations.
The new buyers, led by Maria Contreras-Sweet and Ron Burkle, held an emergency meeting with management on Sunday to determine next steps, as the sale had been expected to close this weekend. The standoff occurred because the Weinstein Company board rejected a settlement offer on Wednesday that potentially left them open to liability over sexual harassment claims against the company, according to an individual with knowledge of the talks.

Vic Damone, the silky-voiced baritone who scored hits throughout the ’40s and ’50s, reportedly died on Sunday at the age of 89. His family tells Fox News that the singer died at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, with close relatives by his side.

James Franco Will Return for ‘The Deuce’ Season 2 After Sexual Misconduct Accusations

James Franco is headed back for season 2 of “The Deuce.” But according to Megan Abbott, a writer for the HBO series, it looks like his status on the show was never in doubt.
Abbott told Entertainment Tonight at the Writers Guild Awards on Sunday that Franco, who was accused of sexual misconduct following his Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy win at the Golden Globes last month, would “of course” return for the show’s second season.

Reg E. Cathey, who was best known for playing Freddy on “House of Cards,” has died at age 59. The news first announced by “The Wire” creator David Simon, who called Cathey “not only a fine, masterful actor — but simply one of the most delightful human beings with whom I ever shared some long days on set.” Netflix has since confirmed the news to IndieWire.

John Gavin, Actor in ‘Psycho’ and ‘Spartacus,’ Dies at 86

John Gavin, who reached the pinnacle of his acting career with roles in Douglas Sirk’s “Imitation of Life,” Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” and the epic “Spartacus,” later serving as president of the Screen Actors Guild in the early ’70s and as U.S. ambassador to Mexico under Ronald Reagan, died Friday morning in Beverly Hills, Calif. He was 86.

NBC’s Jennifer Salke Named Head of Amazon Studios

After a long search process that captivated Hollywood insiders, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke has been named head of Amazon Studios.
Salke will oversee all television and film production for the digital behemoth’s entertainment arm, reporting to Jeff Blackburn, Amazon’s senior VP of business development and digital entertainment. She fills the leadership void that opened in early November when longtime Amazon Studios head Roy Price was forced out amid sexual harassment allegations.
